Sloan Digital Sky Survey Meeting » Parking
Parking on the NMSU campus on weekends or after 4:30pm on weekdays is free, and requires no permit. You may also park at any time without a permit in the free lots on campus (they are a 5 minute walk from the Corbett Center). You can find them marked in dark brown on this parking lot map (in blocks E5, B5, F5, F6, G5, and I1 through I4; the Corbett Center lies to the right of the pink triangle in block E2).
Parking nearer to the Corbett Center in the campus center can turn into an extended treasure hunt, so we recommend that everyone who is staying at the Comfort Suites or the Sleep Inn walk over to the Corbett Center each morning. Those staying at the Holiday Inn, having made alternative arrangements to stay at a significant distance from NMSU, or with health constraints, may either enjoy a slightly longer walk (20 minutes from the Holiday Inn), take a daily shuttle from the Holiday Inn to the Corbett Center, park in the free parking lots, or car pool with a parking permit.
If you decide that you really will need to park in the center of campus with a permit, you will need to indicate this on your registration form, well ahead of time. We will obtain a temporary parking permit for you for the duration of the meeting, but remember that this is no more than a license to hunt for an empty spot.
You will need to pick up your permit from the front office of the astronomy department (near the top of grid D3) before parking on campus. There are parking meters which operate on change across the street from the building next to the Frenger Food Court; your best bet is to feed a quarter to the meter and then pick up your permit before beginning the search for a parking spot.
Place the parking permit on the dashboard of your car. This will allow you to
park in any valid parking spot on the university campus, other than spots
marked blue (handicapped), green (service vehicles), or lavender (campus
residents).
Additional information can be found at the NMSU parking
office.
