This map of Las Cruces shows the location of New Mexico State University within town, and outlines the major streets and highway intersections. The conference hotels are the blue dots labeled 10, 25, and 18 along University Avenue just north of the pale blue triangle of NMSU, and the conference dinner will take place near to the Mesilla Plaza (the large red square in the lower left hand corner).
An NMSU map may be helpful for use in orienting yourself to the campus and surrounding environs of Las Cruces (a JPEG version more suitable for downloading is also available). The university lies within a triangular region formed by I-25 (running from the top to bottom of the map, on the right hand side next to the numbered rows), University Ave. (running from left to right, at the top of the map below the lettered columns). and I-10 (cutting at a 45 degree angle in the lower left hand corner of the map).
All three hotels are located along University Ave. The Holiday Inn is located two "letters" to the left of the A (off of the left hand side of the map), and the Comfort Suites and the Sleep Inn are located under the H. The Corbett Center is labeled CC in grid E2, and the Astronomy Building (AY) can be found near the top of grid D3.
All of the full group and the working group sessions will be held on the third floor of the Corbett Center. A more detailed map showing its location, on the International pedestrian mall (south of University Ave.) can be found here (building #38, centered near the lower edge). The location of the Astronomy Building, a three minute walk away to the southwest on the Frenger pedestrian mall at the intersection of Frenger St. & Williams Ave. can be found here (building #55, in the upper right hand corner).
Walking from the Comfort Suites and the Sleep Inn to the Corbett Center
The Comfort Suites and the Sleep Inn are located on Triviz Dr., roughly where University Ave. intersects with I-25. To walk to the Corbett Center, start off going down University Ave. away from I-25. Cross the street at Locust and walk straight into campus until you hit a large pedestrian walkway. It leads down to the Corbett Center (follow it to your right).
Walking from the Holiday Inn to the Corbett Center
The Holiday Inn is located on University Ave., a few blocks west of NMSU. To walk to the Corbett Center, start off going up University Ave. towards I-25 (towards the Organ Mountains). Cross the street at Jordan and walk straight into campus until you hit a large pedestrian walkway. It leads down to the Corbett Center (to your left).
Walking from the Corbett Center to the Astronomy Department
From the southwest entrance to the Corbett Center (by the bookstore), take the walk which goes diagonally to the left through the parking lot directly outside (this will take you to the Frenger pedestrian mall). Walk past the Zuhl Library and Frenger Food Court, and across Williams Ave. to the Astronomy Building.
